In this EAC, we will be offering a variety of services to the community in Fjaler, providing practical help to people and participating in sports and cultural activities. Some of these services will be on an regular basis, while others will be linked to special events.

We visit old people in Dale to provide them with some company. In order to do this service you must be a Norwegian speaker.

Youth for Aids Awareness (YAA) aims to promote Aids awareness and safe sex practices in the college as well as to raise money for a child orphaned by Aids-infected parents in South Africa. In the future we aim to sponsor an HIV-infected child in South Africa.

To instruct young children in theatre and performance. You should have interest in both theatre and children. The activity will be led by a volunteer from Frivilligheitssentralen in Dale. The starting date will be agreed with Frivilligheitssentralen after visits in the local schools.

This commitment involves:

  • preparing for human rights workshops for Norwegian students from Oslo – thorough research of human rights issues linked to the current year Nobel Peace Prize;
  • active preparation for the Oslo visit;
  • being an ambassador for the College in Norwegian society; and
  • possible attendance at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony.

The students involved in their first year are encouraged to repeat the commitment in their second year.

To help people with disabilities to meet other people. The activities will be led by the Fjaler Municipality and our role will mostly be a social one. It will occur every 3rd week.

The aim of the EAC is to design a course to be used to train students at RCNUWC to develop leadership skills. Each module of the course should have a theoretical component, but should involve role play and other experiential modes of learning. Previous experience of leadership training courses would be very valuable. Participants will likely work in small groups until November Break at flexible times, but will need to come to big group meetings after November Break during the specified meeting time – Tuesday 16:00 to 17:30 (there is no College or Advisor Meeting at this time after Nov. Break.)

This term we are selling calendars!! More broadly we are also in the process of setting up an entrepreneurial initiative in the refugee camps in collaboration with Norwegians in Dale and Hyllestad. Most of the work between now and Christmas will be focused on the marketing of the Saharawi Solidarity calendar, which all of you have seen but not all have touched, by every means at our disposal. Our goal is to raise a profit of over NOK 50,000 for DROP with the goal of supporting The Raselas Diversity School in Ethiopia. We hope the calendar (click  to see it) will educate people about the plight of the refugees and the issue of Western Sahara.

Swimming Course for beginners is a course for those who do not know how to swim or have not yet passed the swimming test. In addition to this there will be possibilities for the experienced swimmers to continue and improve their skills.

The Student Council (SC) is an elected group of student leaders within the College Community. Students may stand for election in January each year for various positions such as Board Representative, house representatives. etc. Once elected, SC members work dedicatedly for the good of the college and are the representatives for the student body in the community. SC meetings are held weekly, SC-staff leaders meet every 2 to 3 weeks, and SC members are also involved in committees and staff meetings.
